The 9" Children of the World Doll Collection

cows.jpg (17749 bytes)To the delight of many Precious Moments Doll collectors, the Children of the World Series was introduced in 1989. The name of the collection was reported to be inspired by the song "Jesus Loves the Little Children...All the Children of the World" and in turn there are dolls that are red, yellow, black and white—and they are all precious to the sight! These 9" tall, completely vinyl dolls have movable arms, legs and heads, much like Barbie dolls. The original retail prices started at $22.50 each, then in 1993 the prices dropped to $20, and since 1995 the prices have been $21-$22.   In 2004 the price was raised to $23 per doll.  As the years pass, the Precious Moments Company continues to add new countries to the collection, while retiring others to make room for the new dolls.   If PMC hasn’t made your favorite country yet, don’t despair—be patient and I’m sure that your country will join the other Children of the World.

Your Cost:  $89.95CLICK HERE TO ORDER

Description:   This cute little Swedish doll has blond hair and blue eyes and is dressed in a white blouse, black skirt with a pink satin apron on top. This is many girl’s first choice favorite because of her cute blond ponytail and pink satin apron, but I’ve heard some people complain that these colors are not Swedish colors.

Brown Sulu—Alaska (#1510)

Description:   The original Children of the World Collection 9" Sulu from Alaska was made wearing brown fur-like pants, coat and hat. She has beautiful dark skin and long black hair that is parted in the middle. In 1996 she was replaced with the new Sulu dressed in a white outfit.

Carla—America (#1501)

Produced 1989—Retired—April 1997

Your Cost:  $59.95CLICK HERE TO ORDER

Description:   Carla’s a pretty little blue-eyed blond with a long pink/mauve calico dress. Carla was very popular when she was available—little girls would pick her out faster than all the others as their favorite (I’m sure the pink dress had a lot to do with that!) She looks a lot like what an American girl would have looked like in the 1800’s.  (There are also Allison & Abigail American dolls too - see above.)

Misu—Japan (#1506)

Produced 1989—Retired—1994

Your Cost:  $179.95CLICK HERE TO ORDER

Description:   This is a beautiful Japanese doll with dark eyes and hair that wears an authentic looking light pink kimono and Japanese-type shoes. Even though she was produced longer than Mazie or Cory, Misu value has risen so quickly because she was such a cutie that everyone wanted her—she sold out very quickly once she was retired. An interesting story about Misu that I found in Rosie Wells’ Secondary Price Guide book tells of the Japanese customers in Hawaii were concerned about little Misu’s kimono.  Apparently according to Japanese custom, the only time that a kimono is folded over towards the left side, like Misu wears it, the garment has been placed on a deceased person for a cremation ceremony! Oh well, she’s cute anyway—even if she looks like she’s going to a funeral.

Mazie—America (#1502)

Produced 1989—Retired—1994

Your Cost:  $169.95CLICK HERE TO ORDER

Description:   This is a pretty African American girl that looks as if she’s from the 1800’s wearing a lovely blue calico dress. She looks very similar to "Carla" from America. Her hair is black, eyes are brown and her skin is dark with a strange bluish tone. PMC has since made African American skin tones that are much prettier in my opinion, but when you don’t have "Aisha" (the new African doll) to compare Mazie to, Mazie is adorable.

Cory— Philippines (#1504)

Produced 1989—Retired—April 1992

Your Cost:  $89.95CLICK HERE TO ORDER

Description:   The Cory doll representing the Philippines was named after the former Philippine President Corazon Aquino. The doll has dark hair and eyes and is dressed in a yellow gown with a yellow flower in her hair (yellow is reported to be the President’s favorite color).  (There is also Stella-Philippines too - see above.)

Ivan—Russia (#1511)

Produced 1990—Retired—1994

Your Cost:  $169.95CLICK HERE TO ORDER

Description:   This adorable little Russian boy was a very popular when he was available—I’m sure that’s why his value rose so quickly. Ivan was the first boy available in the Children of the World series. He has sweet blue eyes, blond hair and wears a black jacket, black boots, a black fur-like hat and red pants.   (There is also Tatianna-Russia too - see above.)

Ollie—Austria (#1515)

Your Cost:  $59.95CLICK HERE TO ORDER

Shonnie—American Indian (#1505)

Produced 1989—Retired—May 1991

Your Cost:  $499.95CLICK HERE TO ORDER

Description:   Why is Shonnie so valuable? Notice when she was retired—May of 1991. This adorable little "American Indian" was produced for a very short time—only 28 months! For years, Shonnie has been in great demand. Shonnie has beautiful dark braids, wears a headband and beads and wears an authentic looking tan Native American dress. For the first year of production, the original six dolls, including Shonnie, did not come with any tag attached.
